Days of Our Lives is saying goodbye to its head writer Ron Carlivati. The former writer joined the soap opera in 2017 and won the 2018 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series. While he did wonders for the show, his creativity has come under scrutiny in recent years. So it was time for the producers to shake things up.
According to TV Insider, Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford have been named as the new head writers. Carlivati has no ill will toward his former employer. In a statement to the news outlet, he thanked the cast and crew for “an amazing run.”
“It has honestly been one of the great joys of my life to be the Head Writer of Days of Our Lives for the past seven-and-a-half-years.”
Episodes of Carlivati’s material will continue to air until April 2025. As for what’s next in his career, with him being a big name in the soap opera industry, odds are another show will hire him. The three main daytime dramas need sprucing up and the former Days writer would be beneficial to them.
Days of Our Lives Writer Ron Carlivati Should Return To General Hospital
Before joining Days of Our Lives, Carlivati was head writer on General Hospital from 2012 to 2015. When Ron joined the ABC drama, it was in danger of cancellation, but his creative storytelling saved the show. During his tenure at the series, he gave more screen time to veteran stars such as Genie Francis and Tristan Rogers. He also created new characters like mob boss Ava Jerome.
However, like many writers, his storytelling hit a slump and ratings dipped. After his exit, the soap opera has undergone several head writer changes, yet things haven’t improved. With current state the show is in, many fans would welcome Carlivati back.
On a Soap Opera Network forum, some fans were willing to give him a second chance.
“I don’t know if I would actually mind him on GH again. At least things would happen lol. I still think RC has some good ideas but he is horrible at execution.”
Another commenter wants him back under one condition:
“Ron might be able to juice GH for a few months, but I don’t want him back there long-term. At the very least not without a strong co-HW.”
The Bold and the Beautiful Should Consider Hiring Carlivati For the Writing Team
Out of all the soap operas, The Bold and the Beautiful is the show that’s criticized the most. With its recycled and predictable storylines, and biased writing for characters; it’s become a snoozefest for viewers. Unfortunately, executive producer and head writer Brad Bell will never step down because his family’s production company owns the show.
While Ron Carlivati won’t get a top position, he could be useful as a breakdown writer or creative consultant. With him on board, the show could bring on new characters or see former characters returning. Plus, there’s a chance for multiple storylines instead of focusing on just one.
Although fans are skeptical of Carlivati, they voiced their preference for him over Bell on a Reddit thread.
“Anyone would be better than Brad Bell.”
Another viewer replied:
“Even he would be better. Not much better but better.”
Ron Carlivati Should Become The New Showrunner for The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless is daytime TV’s number soap opera. However, like many drama series, it’s experienced slumps in storytelling. Since Josh Griffith took over as executive producer and head writer in 2019, fans feel the show has gone downhill. A lack of drama and wasting talented actors are a few criticisms toward Griffith’s writing.
Griffith has overstayed his welcome and fans are so desperate for a new writer they’ll accept anyone. On Reddit, viewers expressed their support for Carlivati to join The Young and the Restless.
“I’ve actually enjoyed Days in the past few years. I would be happy to see him at YR. YR has gotten so boring.”
Another commenter agreed:
“Yes, I am more than fine with him taking over. Anything to liven this show up, like it used to be.”
Another fan had an idea of a Ron storyline:
“He could probably make Hillary and/or Colleen alive again, which would be awesome. But it would get too cartoonish, too fast.”
Will Ron Carlivati join one of these three soap operas? Or could he join the new CBS soap opera The Gates? Whatever his next move is, it’s bound to generate buzz within the soap opera community.
