Bungie has released a new post today mentioning how Destiny 2 will receive its final update and eventually go into maintenance mode. As many of you know, Destiny 2 had some rough months after The Final Shape, with The Edge of Fate being a controversial expansion that caused many players to complain about the shooter. And while Renegades brought many players back with the promise of more updates and future campaigns, these plans won’t come to fruition anymore, as Guardians might be hanging the cloak soon after the final patch drops next month.
Destiny 2: Moment of Triumph Drops on June 9 and With It, The End of the Game
Today’s article, titled, Destiny 2: Every End is a New Beginning, talks about how the game is getting its final update and then staying online but in maintenance mode only.
This last patch, called Moment of Triumph, landing on June 9, will bring, ironically, a lot of content for players to try, as well as some improvements that many have been asking for since the release of The Edge of Fate.
For starters, the Director is back, with a refreshed look for players who’ve been missing it. The Portal is still active for those who liked it, too, but the Director will surely take the spotlight. On top of that, a new Pantheon is on its way, and it will stay forever, with some activities starting on June 9, then a gauntlet on June 13, and the rotation kicking off on June 16.
Furthermore, there are also changes coming to raid and dungeon loot, such as full Tier parity, set bonuses, and more, which should feel in line with the new gear we’ve seen. Crafted weapons will even get update paths for Tiers 1 to 5. Then, Guardians will also get to enjoy new Sandbox abilities and all Exotic Armors launched since The Edge of Fate will be upgraded to have Tier 5 stats.
Portal activities are also getting an overhaul, with better weapon and armor offerings. PvP players will also get to enjoy three modes, as well as the return of Iron Banner every four weeks, Heavy Metal getting a third vehicle, and more. Unfortunately, seasonal events won’t happen anymore, but players will be able to obtain rewards from those events through a new vendor.
In terms of premium currency, Bright Dust rotation will now change daily, and Silver will still be purchasable by players. As part of the final update, Destiny 2: Moment of Triumph will bring a new reward pass, with things originally planned for Shadow and Order. And lastly, there is another permanent mode coming: Sparrow Racing League, bringing tracks from the original Destiny for players to try.
Guardians Are Heartbroken After The Game’s End
Despite the many complaints that came after The Edge of Fate, and several saying Destiny 2 was already dead, it seems several Guardians are now extremely shocked after learning that Destiny 2 is, indeed, receiving its final update and going into maintenance mode.
What has been more shocking for some, at least according to a few Reddit comments, is that this sad news didn’t come with the announcement of a Destiny 3 or something bigger. Instead, it is just the end of the shooter and nothing else for players to replace it with. Well, some still have Marathon, but these are two different titles.
In the end, it seems that there’s still some content for Destiny 2, and ironically, this might drive a lot of players back into it, as there are many new modes that many Guardians have been asking for a while. Yet it is bittersweet: despite all these new additions, the sad reality is that they will be the last, and we might not see anything new coming for our God-slaying, spacefarer Guardians anymore.
