DC Comics revealed their new logo which is set to debut on May 25 with the release of “DC Universe: Rebirth Special” #1. The new logo was implemented immediately on all DC Comics websites, DC All Access, social media, and various other digital platforms.

“While comics continue to be the heart and soul of DC, the brand has evolved to now stand for powerful storytelling across so many different forms of media. DC is home to the greatest Super Heroes and Super-Villains, and the new logo has the character and strength to stand proudly alongside DC’s iconic symbols,” said Amit Desai, DC Entertainment Senior Vice President of Marketing and Global Franchise Management, in a statement. “The launch of the new logo is the perfect tribute to DC’s legacy, exciting future and most importantly, our fans.”

The change came about to help market the old and the new of DC comics going forward. Rebirth, though being met with mixed reactions, is a way DC can bring in new fans. After the mixed reactions of the New 52, DC is moving forward not with just branding, but also story lines as well. Rebirth, another reboot of DC Comics storylines, will incorporate aesthetics of newer artists and works from the early days of DC comics.

“DC Universe: Rebirth Special” #1 was written with the collaboration of Geoff Johns, Phil Jimenez, Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, and Gary Frank.

“I’m very proud that REBIRTH will be the first comic book published with the new DC logo,” stated Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer.  “To me, REBIRTH and the new DC logo are built on what’s come before while looking to what will come tomorrow.  I can’t wait for people to see it on the cover.”

The new logo was created with the help of Pentagram, the world’s largest independent design consultancy. It is unsure at the moment that it will be used for the DCEU (movie universe).

What do you think of the new logo? Do you prefer the old one or this new one? Sound off in the comments below!
