Explore the many levels, alleys, and halls of the city of Waterdeep in Wizards of the Coast’s new Dungeons and Dragons adventure. Waterdeep Dragon Heist has been released today on D&D Beyond. It will hit local stores this September 18th.
The plot of Waterdeep Dragon Heist revolves around keeping a massive horde of gold, known as “dragons”, away from the villains of the book. Depending on which season you choose to play in, the city of Waterdeep changes and the villain changes. It keeps this story fresh and allows for many replays with new dynamics each time. This book was originally announced on June 1st during Wizard of the Coast’s Stream of Many Eyes. The stream featured well-known players and Dungeon Masters such as Matt Mercer, Ashley Johnson, and Joe Manganiello playing through scenarios in Waterdeep.
D&D Beyond is the first to get ahold of this product. It’s fitting because this digital toolbox for players and DM’s has really boomed in popularity. It features information from all the books for 5th edition D&D. Most of the content is free, but you can purchase entire books or even just a single item or subclass. For many, its easier than flipping through pages for information, or having to continuously erase and re-write your Hit Points, Spell Slots, or Ki Points.
More D&D merchandise is also being released in relation to this new book. A unique dice set will arrive in stores November 13th. A set of miniature boxes has just hit the shelves as well. These randomized boxes feature 4-5 miniatures from the Waterdeep story. A sequel book is also coming to stores November 13th. Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage is for levels 5-20. It is a heavy dungeon-focused adventure that takes place underneath Mount Waterdeep.
It’s exciting to see this new development for D&D adventure books. While its possible and encouraged to make your own campaign from scratch, books like the Tal’Dorei Campaign Guide and The Curse of Strahd offer an alternative to explore a world imaginative creators have put together.
