After years of waiting, Ryan Reynolds is wearing the red custom once more, returning as Wade Wilson in the Deadpool 3 trailer. This movie, labeled as Deadpool & Wolverine, is beyond what we saw in Fox’s X-Men universe, bringing Wade to the Loki series‘ TVA for investigation. Did you notice all the details and easter eggs in the Deadpool 3 trailer though? The Secret Wars is coming!
Is That, Victor Timely?!
Victor Timely is an older version of Nathaniel Richards, AKA, Kang The Conqueror. We first met this man of science in Loki Season 2, and it appears that he’s still working in the TVA after that show. In a split second, we get to see a hallway inside the new TVA after Loki’s final act. And if you pay close attention, there’s a man who looks just like Victor Timely.
Since Marvel Studios has dropped Johnathan Majors from the role, it might be the actor’s final performance as Victor Timely/Kang The Conqueror, filmed before getting fired.
Behold The Paradox
Played by Matthew Macfadyen, Paradox is introduced as one of the new TVA’s superior agents. The character was first seen in the third issue of She-Hulk Vol.2, also dying on the same page. Agent Paradox is a colleague of Mobious, and it seems like he’s investigating the Multiverse-level threats in the TVA.
Salute To Cap
When Paradox reveals the footage of MCU Avenger heroes, we see a close-up image of Captain America on the right side. Wade pays respect to Cap in a few seconds of the Deadpool 3 trailer, making the Deadpool 2 Captain America reference a bold easter egg now.
The Villain Revealed
In a matter of seconds, we get to see the main villain in the Deadpool 3 trailer as a flashy easter egg: Cassandra Nova. Cassandra is the twin sister of Charles Xavier and exactly the opposite of who he is. She is considered to be a supervillain in the Marvel comics, committing genocidal crimes like wiping out 16 million mutants. This might be the reason for Deadpool and Wolverine’s possible team up, and why the TVA has assigned Wade to stop Professor X’s villain twin.
20th Century Fox Statue
20th Century Fox was the studio that brought us Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and all the X-Men movies. However, after a long run of X-Men films, Disney bought the studio, hence why we see Deadpool 3 being made by Marvel Studios. But Deadpool still remembers his home right? In a scene where Deadpool is doing that ultra-cool pistols reload, we can see the Fox’s logo on the ground behind him.
Pyro Is Back
After the X-Men movie timeline is revised in X-Men: Days of The Future Past, Pyro’s final status is still unknown. The fire-manipulating mutant is the enemy of the X-Men and has first appeared in X-Men 2000, played by Alexander Burton. The character was then recast for the rest of the X-Men movies for Aaron Stanford to play the role. And well, he’s back now in the Deadpool 3 trailer, having an easter egg-style appearance for a few seconds.
The End Is Near: Secret Wars!
The final easter egg of the Deadpool 3 trailer gives us a direct hint as to what this movie is probably leading towards. If you pay close attention to the final shot where Wade is on the ground and Wolverine appears, you can spot a Secret Wars comic on the left side of the screen.
This is the Secret Wars Vol.1 #5 of the 2015 Marvel comic, where the God Emperor Doom rules the Battle World. Now we know that the Avengers: Secret Wars is the culmination if this phase of the MCU, probably wrapping the Multiverse Saga. So, is this easter egg hinting at a direct connection between Deadpool 3 and the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars? Only time can tell.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive in theatres on July 26, 2024.
