The Mountaintop, a favorite Grenade Launcher of many, returned to Destiny 2 with the Into the Light free update along with 11 other weapons. If you’ve been playing Destiny 2 for a while, The Mountaintop, I’m sure, holds a place in your memories. I won’t say that those memories are fond, but they could be if you were the one to be wielding the grenade launcher in them. The Mountaintop was aggressive, and an entire killing machine in Crucible lobbies. Let’s take a look at how to get and farm The Mountaintop in Destiny 2, and its God Rolls.
How To Unlock and Obtain The Mountaintop
If you want to get The Mountaintop for yourself, you’ll need to unlock it in the Hall of Champions first. This can be done by completing one of Arcite 99-40’s quests, Climbing the Mountaintop. This quest can be picked up in the Hall of Champions from Arcite, and requires you to get a whole bunch of kills with Grenade Launchers. Additionally, you can take a Grenade Launcher into Crucible at get a total of 30 Guardian kills with it. After you’ve done this, you’ll need to speak with Arcite 99-40 and set your Attunement to The Mountaintop in the Hall of Champions from the designated room.
How To Farm The Mountaintop in Destiny 2
Farming any of the new BRAVE Arsenal weapons, including The Mountaintop, is pretty easy to do with the new Attunement feature. Within the Hall of Champions, head over to the Holo-Shaxx holding The Mountaintop and interact with it in order to set your Attunement to The Mountaintop. With your Attunement set to the weapon, you now have a 50% chance for The Mountaintop to drop while completing Into the Light activities, like Onslaught. That said, any time you complete 10 waves of Onslaught, you have a 50% chance for the weapon that drops to be The Mountaintop. So if you’re really looking to farm it, set your Attunement and head into Onslaught.

Destiny 2 The Mountaintop: God Rolls
The Mountaintop has changed quite a bit over the years that it’s been around, and now that it’s back, some things are pretty different. If you were around during its prime, then you likely remember how wild The Mountaintop was in a Crucible match, with the ability to one-hit just about anyone. Pretty hard to compete with that, right? Now, you won’t have to run in fear of being annihilated instantly if the other team gets a decent amount of Special ammo, since The Mountaintop was nerfed pretty well during the Into the Light update. However, it’s still a pretty effective weapon, both in PvE and PvP game modes.
The Mountaintop PvE God Roll
Weapon Slot/Trait | Roll | Effect |
Barrel | Quick Launch | +10 Velocity +15 Handling |
Magazine | Spike Grenades | +10 Stability |
Basic Trait 1 | Demolitionist | Kills with this weapon generate grenade energy. Activating your grenade ability reloads this weapon from reserves. |
Basic Trait 2 | Frenzy | Being in combat for an extended time increases damage, handling, and reload for this weapon until you are out of combat. |
Origin Trait | Indomitability | Final blows grant grenade energy when playing a Light subclass or melee energy when playing a Dark subclass. |
Masterwork | Velocity |
In PvE, having grenade energy is always pretty important, which is exactly why when combined with Indomitability, Demolitionist is the way to go. Demolitionist creates grenade energy when you get kills with The Mountaintop, while grenade kills reload The Mountaintop. If you’re using a Light subclass, getting melee final blows with regenerate your grenade energy as well. Using this information and having the right perks on your weapon can make a grenade-based build pretty overpowered. To do farther, Frenzy increases your damage, handling, and reload speed until you leave combat, which can be a helpful boost in any situation.
The Mountaintop PvP God Roll
Weapon Slot/Trait | Roll | Effect |
Barrel | Quick Launch | +10 Velocity +15 Handling |
Magazine | High-Velocity Rounds | +10 Velocity +10 Reload Speed |
Basic Trait 1 | Auto-Loading Holster | The holstered weapon is automatically reloaded after a short period of time. |
Basic Trait 2 | Harmony | Final blows with other weapons improve this weapon’s damage and performance for a short duration. |
Origin Trait | Indomitability | Final blows grant grenade energy when playing a Light subclass or melee energy when playing a Dark subclass. |
Masterwork | Handling |
Taking The Mountaintop into the Crucible will still probably be your best idea. With perks like Auto-Loading Holster and Harmony, you won’t need to waste precious time reloading your weapon, and if you get kills with other weapons beforehand, your reload speed and projectile speed with The Mountaintop will increase quite a bit.
Since you only have a limited amount of Heavy and Special ammo in Crucible, these perks can be crucial, since you’ll be switching back and forth between weapons when you don’t have anything other than Basic ammo. If you play your cards right, The Mountaintop can still dominate Crucible.
Destiny 2 is now available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.
