Two of Destiny’s most popular weapons will be less powerful after November 10 when the Beyond Light expansion launches. It’s not all bad news though some of the coming tweaks to the weapons of Destiny will bring some old favorites back to life. In one of their weekly updates on the state of Destiny, Bungie, the game’s developer ran down all the changes coming to various weapons in the new Beyond light expansion. Many of the updates are fairly small changes that will likely not be noticed by most players with two big exceptions: the Mountain Top grenade launcher and the Falling Guillotine sword.
Depending on who you ask, the Mountain Top is either the best thing ever to happen to Destiny’s PvP modes or the most irritating and boring thing that can be encountered in a competitive match. The single-shot grenade launcher is loved and hated for its ability to take down other guardians with one hit from basically any distance and for its high amount of splash damage. These two aspects of the gun combined with its above-average accuracy, for a grenade launcher, means that if a player can keep themselves stocked with special ammo they have an incredibly versatile tool for dealing with any situation. To make the Mountain Top a bit easier to fight against, Bungie plans to slightly decrease the amount of splash damage, speed, and accuracy of the gun’s projectiles.
The other weapon on Bungie’s chopping block is the Falling Guillotine sword. Anyone who has loaded into the Tower in the past few months has probably seen this slab-like blade hanging on the backs of their fellow guardians. In a meta where swords are already very strong, the Guillotine is just a bit stronger than the rest of the available options. The fact that the heavy attack with the Guillotine does above average damage and is slightly easier to connect with than others was enough to make the sword practically ubiquitous across game modes. The Falling Guillotine will have its heavy attack damage reduced by twenty-four percent bringing it from well above average down to just slightly above average.
The writing was on the wall for the Falling Guillotine when Bungie unveiled the chainsaw sword that’s coming in Beyond Light. It was fun to just delete mini-bosses from the game for a while there. Regardless, I’d like to hear your opinion on these nerfs. Do you think either of these weapons needed nerfs? What should Bungie target for balancing next? Let me know in the comments below!
