Diablo 4 is a gift that keeps on giving, especially now during the winter season and its ongoing winter event, Midwinter Blight. With the advent of Diablo 4 Midwinter Blight, along came new powers for players to toy with. The most intriguing among them is the Shard of Dawn Aspect which comes with a unique buff called Night’s Grasp. Here’s why you shouldn’t sleep on the Diablo 4 Night’s Grasp buff.
What is Nights Grasp in Diablo 4?
Everything about Night’s Grasp revolves around the aforementioned new passive Offensive power, the Shard of Dawn Aspect. Shard of Dawn has this exact effect:
- “After 30 seconds of Night’s Grasp, gain Dawn’s Haste, increasing your Attack Speed by [25 – 35]% and Movement Speed by 20% for 12 seconds. While empowered by the Midwinter Ward, killing an enemy reduces Night’s Grasp’s duration by 1 second.”
Therein lies the confusion (as is the usual case with a lot of Diablo 4 aspects). Night’s Grasp is the condition for Shard of Dawn’s activation. Thus, Night’s Grasp is merely a blank ‘buff‘ to indicate that you’re using the Shard of Dawn Aspect.
It will appear as an icon in the UI and after 30 seconds of having Night’s Grasp in Diablo 4, you’ll get the Shard of Dawn’s Dawn’s Haste effect.
Basically, it’s better to treat Night’s Grasp as some kind of cooldown for Dawn’s Haste, which is a pretty substantial boost to your clearing speed, as indicated by the tooltip.
What is Midwinter Ward?
Midwinter Ward is another confusing part of the tooltip. But Midwinter Ward is simply a buff that you can obtain from the special totem near Gileon’s shop in Kyovashad. By ensuring you have Midwinter Ward, you can trigger a domino effect of shortening Night’s Grasp and keeping Dawn’s Haste more active.
That assumes you can kill enemies fast enough to reduce Night’s Grasp’s duration. Less Night’s Grasp means more Dawn’s Haste, as long as there are enemies for you to slay.
How to Get the Shard of Dawn?
Understanding Night’s Grasp would be a moot point if you don’t have the actual Shard of Dawn Aspect, of course. So if you want it (and you should), you’ll need to be active during the Diablo 4 Midwinter Blight event. Follow these steps:
- Collect around 10 Midwinter Proof by exchanging materials during the event.
- Once you have five to 10 Midwinter Proof, go to Gileon in Kyovashad and buy the Shard of Dawn.
It’s worth noting that you’ll have to disrupt your build template to make room for the Shard of Dawn Aspect. However, given the buff it grants, it’s a welcome change.
