Quake fans haven’t gotten a whole lot to look forward to over the past few years. The only news they’ve seen has been in the shape of a new Quakecon event, and that’s not entirely news. There’s been the odd game here and there, but nothing has gotten a lot of traction. Hopefully, on September 3rd, that all changes. Diabotical, the upcoming arena first-person shooter from The GD Studio, releases on August 34th. In Diabotical’s universe, that’s a normal date. In our universe though, that means we get the game on September 3rd. You can find the gameplay trailer for one of the previous closed beta events below.
What is Diabotical?
Diabotical is a colorful arena FPS, taking a much more cartoonish approach than that of other games in its genre. In the game, you play as small egg-shaped bots fighting in small arenas for a chance at the top spot. In classic Quake fashion, you’ll find yourself flying across arenas, using all your weapons to inflict maximum damage. Some weapons are better for different situations, so be ready to swap on the fly. Will you be the next Diabotical champion? You’ll have to see when Diabotical releases early next month.
If you’re interested in trying an arena FPS but don’t want to spend a lot of money, you’re in luck. Diabotical will be free-to-play on the Epic Games Store, allowing all players to give the game a try. With a lot of potential fun to be had, and a classic genre re-imagined, this may be just the chance to bring arena FPS titles back into the spotlight.
I’m hopeful for the game’s future, but time will only tell whether that hope is warranted. You can find additional details regarding Diabotical on the game’s official website.
