The post, which featured a screenshot of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter track “Jolene,” appeared innocent on the surface. However, many thought it threw shade at Gomez for her history with Justin Bieber.
Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez Feud Over Justin Bieber?
The latest drama between Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez began on Friday, March 29. Shortly after Beyoncé dropped her country album, Cowboy Carter, Bieber showed her support for the record by sharing a screenshot of her listening to the track “Jolene” on her Instagram Story.
“Jolene” is a reinterpretation of Dolly Parton’s 1973 song of the same name. It sounds similar to the original. However, it’s not exactly a cover since Beyoncé changed some of the lyrics. Although she tweaked the track to fit her own love story with Jay-Z, the song’s overall message remains the same: A woman is after someone else’s man.
Bieber reacted to Beyoncé’s “Jolene” by writing “whew” beside an angry emoji. While she didn’t explain her caption, fans assumed she related to the song’s scathing lyrics. Some even thought she was sending a message to Gomez to stay away from Justin Bieber.
