Disney+ has added a brand new feature perfect for social distancing. GroupWatch allows for up to seven members to connect and watch something together. Rumors of this feature began to spread in late August. And after testing in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the feature is now available in the US. Disney plans to release it in Europe this fall. Alongside the official press release, SVP of Product Management for Disney+ Jerrell B. Jimerson had this to say:

Storytelling comes alive when you’re able to share and enjoy it with others, and in this moment when many are still apart from their friends and family, GroupWatch offers a way to safely connect virtually by co-viewing your favorite Disney+ stories with your favorite people from the comfort of your living room.”

Disney+ GroupWatch

GroupWatch will be available through the Disney+ app on the web, mobile devices, connected TV devices such as gaming consoles, and Smart TVs. However, invites have to come via web or mobile.

The streaming service has added a new icon on each series and movie page. Members can click the icon to invite up to six other subscription members. And you better choose some trustworthy people for GroupWatch. The synchronized playback means anyone can pause, rewind, or fast forward at any time. Viewers can also react via six different emojis in real-time.

The feature comes at a great time. Many are still observing social distancing protocols. But there is plenty of upcoming content that many Disney+members will undoubtedly enjoy watching with others. Season 2 of The Mandalorian will be added on October 30th. Marvel’s first show for the service, WandaVision, just received a trailer and will join before the end of the year. And with Halloween right around the corner, members can also enjoy an extensive Halloween Collection.

Are you a Disney+ member who’s excited about the GroupWatch feature? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
