For awhile there, it looked like there was a pretty good chance that the Tron series was coming to an end. However, it appears that Disney had finally moved forward on beginning work for Tron 3. As if this wasn’t exciting enough, the filmmakers have their eye on Jared Leto to play the lead.
While it has been officially confirmed that film is indeed in the works, not a whole lot is known yet. However, here are some of the things we do know! It looks like the third installment of the series will not be a direct sequel to the Tron film released in 2010, Tron: Legacy. However, the current film in production will be loosely based off an earlier edition of the script for Tron: Legacy. While Jared Leto has not officially signed on for the project yet, he apparently is in negotiations with the studio. The lead actor may be taken care of but the project still does not have a director or writer attached to the project yet.

Disney has been working on continuing the series for some time now, think like 2013. They had a working script, and people working on the film continually sang its praises and talked about the project openly in interviews. Unfortunately, it seemed like all news of the film seemed to end there. And Disney officially pulled the plug on the project sometime in 2015. Obviously, Disney is hungry to give this another shot and the film is now in the works. Let’s hope we see some actually progress this time around!
Tron is a science fiction film based around the idea of a programmer getting sucked into a game that he has created. The film series began with the original releasing in 1982. The next installment of the series did not release until 25 years later as Tron: Legacy.
