Looks like Doctor Doom is adding Sorcerer Supreme to his resume next year. For much of Marvel’s history, the role of Sorcerer Supreme has been held by Doctor Stephen Strange. Alongside his trusted allies, Strange has fended off the mystical dangers that threaten to overtake and consume the Marvel Universe. While occasional timelines show off different Masters of the Mystic Arts, the gig always ends up in Strange’s capable hands. Now, one of Marvel’s biggest bads looks ready to take up the cape and do who-knows-what with this newfound power.
Timeless #1
This sneak peek at Doctor Doom’s new job comes in the pages of Timeless #1. The bulk of the issue focuses on the fight between Old Man Luke Cage and Immortal Moon Knight at the end of the world. However, there are several peeks at upcoming storylines tucked between the panels. One such peek shows off a darker tone for 2024 Marvel. We get a glimpse at someone known as “Prisoner X” toiling away in the X-Men’s Danger Room. Additionally, we get a glimpse of the Avengers versus vampire fight in the Blood Hunt event. We also get a look at Tombstone taking over New York after the Gang War event and a new Ghost Rider in the Marvel Universe.
However, the strangest panel shows Doctor Doom as the reigning Sorcerer Supreme. The iron-masked villain is shown standing over the heroes of Marvel. In one hand he holds the Eye of Agamatto up high; in the other, he has tucked Doctor Strange’s iconic red cape. Does this mean that Doctor Strange is going to meet an untimely end at the hands of Doctor Doom? Or, has Strange gifted Doom these items as part of a larger plot?
Doctor Doom’s Plans
As Doctor Doom gets promoted, it brings to question whether this version of the Marvel character is friend or foe. Doom and Strange have crossed paths multiple times. That makes sense, considering both are some of the more powerful magic-wielders in the Marvel Universe. However, Doom is often using his powers for evil rather than to save the world. Yet, if the two were to team up against a more powerful threat, it would make for an interesting duo. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out what is going on.
