Michael Keaton (Batman) is back as the titular problematic demon in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Directed by Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands), it’s the sequel to the 1988 film, Beetlejuice. In addition to Keaton, Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) and Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) also return. They’re joined by Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Justin Theroux (Mulholland Drive), Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man), and Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded). As Tim Burton isn’t averse to making sequels – having made a couple over the course of his career – you might be wondering if the film leaves itself open for another entry. So, let’s see if Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has a post-credits scene.
Is There a Post-Credits Scene in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?
While Beetlejuice Beetlejuice technically doesn’t have a post-credits scene, you’ll want to wait around until the end of the first set of closing credits. These credits are accompanied by shots from the film, and they do contain one last stinger that will make you chuckle as you leave the theater. So, once the first credits finish you can feel free to go to the bathroom and leave. Or, you could stay and watch the names of all the people who worked on the movie. Either way, there are no extra scenes or stingers once the first set of closing credits ends.
As for a Beetlejuice 3 (or Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Beetlejuice Beetlejuice does leave the door open for another adventure. But, there is nothing during the credits that teases a sequel. Even though the film doesn’t have a dedicated post-credits scene, it doesn’t need one because of the comedic stinger during the stylized credits. In fact, it’s arguable that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has a near-perfect ending, one that leaves room for a continuation of the franchise, but one that will also leave you satisfied.
While it’s been nearly four decades since the original film, a sequel to Beetlejuice has been in talks for a long time. Infamously, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian was the original plan for a sequel. The film was in discussions and was ultimately never produced, with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice being the sole film sequel. The prospects of a third Beetlejuice film will undoubtedly be tied to the box office success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and whether or not Burton or Keaton wish to return for another one.
You can catch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theaters on September 6, 2024.
