Muad’Dib is back in the sequel to 2021’s science-fiction epic, Dune. Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), Dune: Part Two picks up right where the first part left off, with Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) living amongst the Fremen, ready to bring war to the Harkonnens. Most of the cast returns from the first film, including Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and Stellan Skarsgård. They’re joined by newcomers Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken. As this might be the second film in a trilogy, you might be wondering if it teases a sequel. So, let’s see if Dune: Part Two has a post-credits scene.
Does Dune: Part Two Have a Post-Credits Scene?
If you’ve sat through the nearly three-hour film bloated from the popcorn and soda, feel free to rush off to the bathroom as soon as the credits begin to roll, because Dune: Part Two does not have a post-credits scene. Just remember to take your trash along with you. Or you can stay and sit, watching the names of the hardworking people who made the film scroll by, basking in the ending and wondering where the franchise might go next. If you do stay you’ll learn that Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), who plays Gurney, is credited with the lyrics for one of the songs.
It’s okay that the film didn’t have a post-credits scene, because it didn’t need one. The film’s ending sets up a third entry perfectly, so any scene during or after the credits would’ve felt redundant. The first two films were based on Frank Herbert’s original novel of the same name, whereas a third entry would be based on the sequel novel – also by Herbert – Dune: Messiah. While a third movie has not officially been greenlit, Villeneuve mentioned in December that it was in the writing stage.
It looks like the epic might just make its $190 million budget back in the first week, with projections for the global opening weekend box office sitting at around $160 million. As for when we’ll see a third film, there was a three-year gap between the first two. So, it’s likely that we might not see Dune: Part 3 until at least 2027. For now, you can return to the deserts of Arrakis when Dune: Part Two comes to theaters on March 1, 2024.
