Due to its huge success, it is only normal for players to jump into GTA Online daily to join their friends or play alone; however, many wonder if, after a decade, this game has crossplay features. Given how crucial crossplay functions are nowadays, one of the biggest live service games in the world should have them to facilitate players to play with each other regardless of the platform. Still, after many years, we have some bad news for those eager to explore Los Santos with other console and PC players.
GTA Online: Crossplay Explained
First and foremost, GTA Online does not have crossplay for any of its game versions. You can only play with people on your same family of consoles or on PC. This means Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players can play together. The same applies to PS4 and PS5 users. For PC, it doesn’t matter if you own the game on Steam or Epic Games; you can play with them regardless. However, don’t expect to play with Xbox players if you own a PlayStation console and vice versa.
This will be unfortunate for many players, but it’s understandable, as crossplay between consoles is usually a bit harder than PC. Still, the lack of these features after a decade is something that baffles players.
Another thing to keep in mind is that while you can use the same Rockstar Social Club for all platforms, progress doesn’t carry over. If you play on PS5 and then switch to PC, you’ll have two different characters, which might make things a bit grindy for many. However, those on PC can have their progress carried over from Epic Games to Steam without any issue.
We hope Grand Theft Auto‘s next entry brings cross-play features to allow players to heist together regardless of their platform. Yet, we’ll have to wait and see what Rockstar is planning for the future of this franchise before we even think about the online part.
