Can Starfield run at 60fps on Xbox 9th gen consoles? This is a question that most fans have been asking after the Xbox showcase that revealed everything we need to know aboutย Starfield. But this revelation came with the sad or rather shocking news that targets the frame per second you would get while playing this game on Xbox Series S and X.

No, the developers stated thatย Starfieldย would run at a locked 30fps on Xbox consoles. And this decision has been a trending topic for many fans on social media. Todd Howard, the director of Starfield, revealed this news in the Xbox showcase, and this has divided some players on whether this decision is good for the game’s overall experience.

Howard mentions that makingย Starfieldย run at 30fps on Xbox consoles is because they don’t want to sacrifice the game’s visual quality. This means that you’ll get the maximum graphics with the game at the cost of not playing on a smooth 60fps. But this isn’t what the 9th gen promised gamers three years ago.

Game dev here, big fan btw. Wanted to clarify It's not a sign of an unfinished game. It's a choice. 60fps on this scale would be a large hit to the visual fidelity. My guess is they want to go for a seamless look and less " pop in". And of course your right to dislike the choice

Many games these days give players the option to increase the fps or get the maximum quality. This could be the case for Starfield as well, but as of now, the developers’ decision is not to include a 60fps option. This idea is even backed up by theย God of Warย dev Dannie Carlone, stating that releasing the game with a 30fps lock isn’t a sign of an unfinished game. He also confirms Howard’s call that this choice is for the better visual quality of the game. But ifย Starfieldย runs only at 30fps on Xbox consoles, would it also be the same on PC?

Can You Play Starfield at 60fps on PC?

There’s no such limit onย Starfield‘s fps on PC. This means that you can run this game at a smooth 60fps if your PC has the recommended specs. However, even in the Xbox showcase, the developers stated that their experience with the game has been smooth so far, even though it may not meet a solid 60fps on the minimum specs.

With all this information in mind, an important part ofย Starfield‘s gameplay is being a shooter. This means that you either shoot your weapons while wandering around on the planets or blast the other spaceships from space. Either way, a shooter requires smooth fps to meet some players’ expectations, and this is why fans are concerned about this choice.

Only time will tell ifย Starfield‘s fps will be welcomed by the players or not, and we have to wait until the game’s release for the final comments. Developed by Bethesda, Starfieldย will be available to play on Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6, 2023.
