Night City was always one of the most appealing things about Cyberpunk 2077. Since we saw the first trailers, we were amazed by the scale and style of the futuristic metropolis, its districts, and how different they are from each other. While the city has a fantastic design, a common complaint was the lack of interaction of the inhabitants with their surroundings. Fortunately, the most recent 2.0 update to the game has managed to fix this, but not in Night City as such, but in Dogtown, the new district of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which shows that it is a fantastic addition to the game.

When it comes to open-world games, one of the most important aspects is the world itself. Many people still hold Red Dead Redemption 2 in high regard, which brought highly realistic open-world mechanics to the gaming world within an in-game environment. When Night City debuted, many people expected the same, but it failed to do so in many parts. NPCs didn’t move as they should, and some didn’t react to what was happening, among other things. Now, thanks to the 2.0 update and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Night City is much better, but it doesn’t compare to Dogtown.

Dogtown is a fully militarized district located next to Pacifica. Getting inside is difficult, and getting out is even more complicated. Yet, you can feel the “freedom” of these characters and their way of living, which shows that Night City was not the most dangerous place. Characters in this place have more dynamic conversations. Going through the streets is dangerous because you can run into clashes between rival gangs. At one point, you may see a supply falling from the sky, and it is up to you to get involved or ignore it. Such details bring life to a war-torn location, which is both ironic and spectacular.

The best thing about Dogtown is that it proves you don’t need neon lights to attract people. Yes, visually, Night City is still impressive, especially with the new update, but Phantom Liberty‘s Dogtown has an aura of danger lurking around every corner, immersing you in a captivating experience. One of the things that causes this is the destroyed buildings and old machinery that surrounds the city sectors. From the first time you go up to the stadium, you can see the destruction of this district, but despite that, it hasn’t stopped its people from moving forward.

Another fantastic thing about Dogtown is how the district invites you to use your build in the best way. In Night City, we always felt that we could easily escape from some encounters. Thanks to Dogtown’s narrow design, a small mistake would bring us face-to-face with the dangerous enemies of this place. In one of the missions, we failed while hacking an enemy and were discovered, which sent all the scavs to our location; obviously, we didn’t make it out alive. The design of this map makes us think more cautiously before acting to not succumb to the dangers of this district.

Without a doubt, Dogtown is one of the best things that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty brought to Night City and its surroundings. The new missions take you deeper into this district that is more than just a set of destroyed buildings and show you how rough life really is inside this place. And despite that, it is still a field of new opportunities for our favorite mercenary. If you plan to enter Dogtown, you must bring everything you have because the enemies you will find are among the most dangerous that V has faced.
