Doja Cat slams Sydney Sweeney following her stunning appearance in “good jeans” for a widely criticized American Eagle ad. The 27-year-old showcased her stunning figure in a new campaign for the brand’s Fall collection, which features The Sydney Jean as well as a limited edition denim jacket. Aside from being a fashion statement, the jean, created in collaboration with the Euphoria actress, serves to create awareness for victims of domestic violence. It features a butterfly motif, universally recognized by domestic abuse initiatives as a symbol of transformation, hope, and new beginnings for survivors.

Despite the heartfelt initiative behind the jeans, the brand’s marketing strategy has sparked ire across social media. The ad gave a nod to the actress’ genes with the tagline, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” a word play on “great genes,” a term widely used to depict attractiveness and desirable traits.

The term has historically been used by racists, eugenicists, and white supremacists to celebrate whiteness as the more desirable phenotype. This insinuation has generated a political firestorm across the web, with many deeming the lines offensive, tone-deaf, and a celebration of white supremacy. Enraged netizens have also accused the campaign of inciting hate and promoting antisemitism.

Amid the ensuing backlash, singer Doja Cat took a savage dig at Synney Sweeney, mocking the tone-deaf jeans ad. Via TikTok, the 29-year-old shared an animated video of herself repeating the lines Sweeney voiced in the ad in a mawkish tone, saying,

“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blee [blue]”

Doja Cat’s dig at Sydney Sweeney has sparked mixed reactions from social media users. Many admitted the rapper’s Sweeney roast is one thing they never saw coming, given her many controversies in years past, including those deemed racially and politically charged. Reacting to her swipe at Sweeney, one fan wrote,

“Doja Cat officially uncancelled after turning from Nazi to Black activist.”

A second comment read,

“This really surprised me, Doja. I thought you could relate to Sydney Sweeney and them.”

Another wrote on X

“With dojas past this is insane and Sydney should dang well know she’s wrong for that ad lol.”

A Look at Doja Cat’s Past Controversies Amid Sweeney’s Backlash

Doja Cat has faced a series of backlash herself over her controversial online antics. One of her most controversial antics happened in 2023, when the crooner shared and deleted a selfie of herself wearing a t-shirt imprinted with YouTuber and alt-right comedian Sam Hyde. Fans accused the star of promoting the alt-right movement and Nazi propaganda, citing Hyde’s open support of neo-Nazi initiatives

She also faced the wrath of netizens in 2020 after clips showing her alleged participation in chatrooms for incels, white supremacists, and involuntary celibates, among other offensive subjects on the Tinychat app circulated online. The leaked chats sparked the X hashtag #dojacatisoverparty, with fans accusing her of promoting racist agendas. Additionally, she named a 2015 song Dindu Nuffin’, a racial slur that mocks victims of police brutality.

With such a politically controversial history, taking a dig at Sydney Sweeney over the seemingly racist “good jeans” ad seemed over the top, as netizens did not fail to point out. Yet, their disappointment at Sweeney and her “great genes” seemingly stomped Cat’s controversial history, redeeming her in the eyes of most fans.
