The wildfire raging through the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles has devastated many neighborhoods on a massive scale. Nearly 10,000 acres of structures have been destroyed, and over 25 lives have been lost. However, President-elect Donald Trump seems to be thinking about a different future for Los Angeles. For those unaware, the Olympics are set to be held in LA in 2028, and he is still expecting them to take happen. Before any Olympics take place, massive efforts are used to ensure that the selected area is safe and clean for the wave of tourists expected to come. However, how is he hoping to do that with the raging wildfire taking place?
During a meeting with Casey Wasserman, the L.A. 2028 organizational committee chairman, Donald Trump ensured that he would do everything he could to make these the “greatest games.”
“These are more important than ever to L.A. and I’m going to be supportive in every way possible to make them the greatest Games.”
While it’s admirable that the President-elect wants the Games to be great, especially on his home turf, there should have been some acknowledgment that the fire is still raging and what those relief efforts will look like when it’s contained. Even though the fires started during President Biden’s term, Trump is going to be the one who has to deal with the aftermath.
Fortunately, the 80 venues meant to host the L.A. 2028 Olympics haven’t been affected by the fires, which is likely the reason for Trump’s comment. However, that could change in the coming days as the fire continues to spread through the Pacific Palisades area. During the spread, many people have done what they can to aid in the relief efforts, including several celebrities like Jennifer Garner and even Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. While things might look a little grim, people seem to come together to help one another.
