The game features 13 characters taken from different games throughout the Dragon Quest series. Those characters include Alena from Dragon Quest IV, Bianca from Dragon Quest V, and Yangus from Dragon Quest VIII.

Plays control either the hero, Luceus, or the heroine, Aurora, and join forces with an iconic cast from previous Dragon Quest titles to bring the rampaging hordes of monsters to their senses and restore order to the kingdom.
