After defeating the Archfiend Baramos, our hero discovers that the Archfiend is merely a henchman of a bigger bad guy. You now need to explore Alefgard after jumping into Gaia’s Pit. Once you obtain the Rainbow Drop, you can create a rainbow bridge to reach Zoma’s Citadel dungeon in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. Since this is the final dungeon, you must be ready to face numerous powerful bosses and enemies that will stand in your path.

Zoma’s Citadel dungeon is a very tricky and devious area in Dragon Quest 3 Remake. You will encounter many dead ends and false passages. It would be one thing if you got a treasure chest at the end, but you would only get numerous enemy encounters that sap away your limited MP.

On the first floor, you can find four staircases that lead to the lower floor. This is a fake path that will only lead you to an empty chamber with a looping staircase. The true passage is hidden underneath the empty throne at the center of the first floor. You must defeat six giant statues, and then you have to walk through electrified floors to reach the throne. Remember to cast Safe Passage to avoid damage.

Keep going down until you reach the B2 floor in Zoma’s Citadel dungeon. There are two staircases that you can take. The closest one leads to a dead end where you will fall if you drop through the holes in the floor. Your goal is to reach the stairs on the northern side. The problem is that there is a big puzzle that stands in your way.

Basically, the special tiles with colored arrows will mess with your movement control. There are two types: Yellow-Blue and Blue-Yellow. Yellow-Blue will turn your control scheme clockwise while the Blue-Yellow will turn it counterclockwise.

  • Yellow-Blue: Up becomes Left, Down becomes Right, Right becomes Up, and Left becomes Down.
  • Blue-Yellow: Up becomes Right, Down becomes Left, Right becomes Down, and Left becomes Up.

If you’re using a controller, the trick is to turn your controller based on the new Up direction. This will allow you to navigate this puzzle more easily. For instance, if you stand on a Yellow-Blue tile, you need to press the Right D-pad button if you want to go up. It’s confusing, I know, so you should take your time walking through this section.

These two floors are more straightforward than the two upper floors in Zoma’s Citadel dungeon in Dragon Quest III Remake. The B3 floor doesn’t have any tricks, and you can just head straight to the staircase. I suggest you go to the southwestern chamber if you want to find a docile monster and a treasure chest.

In B4, you will encounter the legendary Ortega and your father. However, you still need to continue your journey and go down. This is the last floor before you will face the final boss. There will be a room full of treasure chests in the northern chamber so you should visit it.

All Treasure Chest Locations

Here is the list of all the items you can discover in Zoma’s Citadel dungeon in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:

FloorItemLocation
F1Mini MedalExamine the front side of the empty throne.
B1Hapless HelmOn the northern side of the B1 floor, you can reach by walking down one of the four staircases in F1.
B2Gold CoinsOn the northeastern corner beyond the arrow puzzle.
B2Scourge WhipOn the northwestern corner beyond the arrow puzzle.
B3Bastard SwordOn the southwestern corner.
B3Liquid Metal Slime On the northwestern corner.
B3Dragon Dojo DudsNorth of the entrance staircase.
B3Flayer, Double-edged SwordOn the southwestern corner.
B4Mini Medal, Diamend, Yggdrasil Leaf, Sage’s Stone, Prayer Ring, and Shimmering DressInside the big chamber with a red carpet on the northern side.

Once you reach the last basement floor, you can find a teleportation point that will take you to the entrance. You should use this chance to return to a city and rest at an inn before you face the final boss. Don’t worry. You can teleport back to this area from the entrance of Zoma’s Citadel dungeon.
