Unless a celebrity directly states something, it can be difficult to know what’s true when it comes to media outlets’ alleged “sources.” And Dua Lipa is having none of it with the Daily Mail after the publisher has reportedly made false claims about her and an agent named David Levy. According to the report, she allegedly didn’t fire him because his pro-Israel political views didn’t align with her stance. But his termination occurred because Levy attempted to ban a pro-Palestine band from performing at Glastonbury.
However, the “Love Again” singer has come out on Instagram to set the record straight, saying that the story was “completely false.” Lipa clarified, “I do not condone the actions of David Levy or other music executives toward an artist speaking their truth.” However, she then slams the antisemitic narrative and slander used by the Daily Mail, saying that the article was “deliberately inflammatory, crafted purely for clickbait, clearly designed to fuel online division.” She’s not wrong, as many of the comments in the post were filled with people calling her antisemitic and “an idiot,” even though the story ended up not being accurate at all.
In other words, Dua Lipa is upset that the Daily Mail is using her name, with “anti-Semitism” in a headline, to instigate some public outrage related to the genocide of Palestinians, even though the professional separation happened over 6 years ago. The “Be the One” songwriter is not the only one who holds negative sentiment against the Daily Mail. According to commenters on Reddit, the publisher has already been lacking credibility in many online spaces. People refer to the media outlet as “the Daily Heil” or “the Daily Fail,” saying how it “is malicious at all turns, be that opportunism or outright hatred.” Others add that the website is notorious for publishing fake news.
While fans are glad Dua Lipa called out the Daily Mail on its false story, it just goes to show the age-old saying, ‘You can’t trust everything you read on the internet.’ Rumors and gossip are one thing, but people definitely will get riled up if their favorite celebrity is placed into a clickbaity, provocative story that contains false information. Charli xcx was recently under fire based on her alleged friends compromising her stance on Israel. But this was based on facts, not hearsay.
Whatever the case, Dua Lipa has been vocal about speaking against Israel’s genocide since last year, when she asked that people “show solidarity with Gaza.” Up until now, she hasn’t shown signs of anti-semitism, but rather a focus on preserving the lives of Palestinians. However, some media outlets would sure like you to believe that just for the clicks.
