DWTS Jordin Sparks says Whitney Houston would be very proud of her. Furthermore, especially when she danced to I Wanna Dance With Somebody. A number she very much did as a tribute to the late pop star. You may remember the two starlets from their 2012 musical, Sparkle. The two famously hit it off and quite the friendship and mentorship rose up between the two. Sadly, Houston’s life was cut short due to a series of tragedies and poor choices. Some blame Bobby Brown but that is an article for another day. Today, we don’t focus on death. Rather, we celebrate life.
Sadly, she did not win the best performance of the night. But that wasn’t her focal point. Her focal point was giving it all while she remembered her dear friend. It was a rousing performance, with Sparks dressed in a retro denim jacket with her own name on the back of her coat. She got quite a crowd reaction, as it is a feel-good song for sure.

The DWTS contestant spoke to Page Six about the short period of time she got to know Whitney, admitting that she didn’t know her for very long, but the singer still had a massive impact on her life. “I am still loving and admiring her all these years later. I know she would be really, really proud,” the DWTS contestant said. The star says if Whitney was in the audience, she would have been cheering her on and being very supportive. Jordin also told a story of when she was on the set of Sparkle with Whitney, and someone did an impressive vocal run. Jordin expressed that she wishes she could do that with her voice, and Whitney reassured the DWTS contestant that it was possible and that she should never doubt her ability.”
DWTS Jordin Sparks insists Whitney would be proud of her, and we agree. It’s not easy to dance in front of the mirror. Never mind in front of the world. But Sparks brings some real authenticity to the stage. And her performance during the iconic song was quite moving. And it got the crowd moving, too, which is nice. The reality is, Whitney Houston may be gone, but she will never be forgotten.
