The Bestial Sanctum is a notable landmark in Elden Ring, located at the northernmost point of Dragonburrow, Caelid, housing the Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman. Exploring this area and completing its correlating questline will reward Tarnished adventurers with a new Sacred Seal, Ash of War, Greathammer, Dagger, Talisman, and a host of unique Spells. These Spells are known as Bestial Incantations, powers identical to the moveset possessed by Gurranq and Maliketh the Black Blade during his first phase. However, to enter the Dragonburrow Bestial Sanctum in Elden Ring, Tarnished pilgrims must first collect a specific quest item and show it to one of the NPCs of the Roundtable Hold.

How To Complete The Bestial Sanctum In Elden Ring

Gurranq Beast Clergyman Elden Ring

To start the Bestial Sanctum’s questline in Elden Ring, Tarnished must first find a Deathroot, a Key Item most obtained by slaying Tibia Mariners or completing specific Dungeons in the Lands Between. Next, players must show the Deathroot to D, Hunter of the Dead, within the Roundtable Hold. This action will grant adventurers access to the Bestial Sanctum’s interior.

Once inside, Elden Ring players will encounter Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman. This NPC will reward Tarnished with new items for bringing him Deathroots found throughout the world. However, bear in mind that after delivering Gurranq a fourth Deathroot, he will break out into a frenzy, becoming hostile and attacking the protagonist. To restore the Beast Clergyman in Elden Ring, players will need to diminish a portion of his HP for the NPC to turn back to normal.

As for the aforementioned Talisman and unique Dagger, Tarnished travelers can acquire these items from the outside of the Bestial Sanctum, meaning that access to the building’s interior isn’t required for these items. To get these two pieces of gear, players must go to the western cliff edge of the sanctum and carefully make their way down to the bottom level below. This platforming challenge is quite tricky and can quickly end in death if Tarnished aren’t cautious.

Below are all the Deathroot locations and rewards for Gurranq’s questline in Elden Ring. If Gurranq is slain, players will receive an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, but they will be permanently locked from completing his questline until they start an NG+.

  • First Deathroot (Clawmark Seal): located in Deathtouched Catacombs
  • Second Deathroot (Bestial Sling): located in Black Knife Catacombs
  • Third Deathroot (Bestial Vitality): located at Summonwater Village
  • Fourth Deathroot (Ash of War: Beast’s Roar): located at Wyndham Ruins
  • Fifth Deathroot (Beast Claw): located south of the Carian Study Hall
  • Sixth Deathroot (Stone of Gurranq): located north of the Snow Valley Ruins Overlook
  • Seventh Deathroot (Beastclaw Greathammer): located in Gelmir Hero’s Grave
  • Eighth Deathroot (Gurranq’s Beast Claw): located in a secret area of the Hidden Path to the Haligtree
  • Ninth Deathroot (Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone): located in the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
