In Elden Ring, Key Items are important to advance the story along. Many feature a quest or taking down an enemy. With the Tonic of Forgetfulness, learning how to get and use it will ensure you finish an Elden Ring sidequest.

How to Get the Tonic of Forgetfulness

The Tonic of Forgetfulness is tied in with Rya’s questline in Elden Ring. If you need help, our guideline on Rya’s quest is a worthy read.

You’ll get the tonic from Lady Tanith, the head of Volcano Manor. However, you have to trigger this moment. Once you start Rya’s questline and meet Tanith, join with the Manor group once prompted. From there, you’ll get the Drawing Room Key.

We’re now one step closer to the Tonic of Forgetfulness in Elden Ring.

Next, follow Rya’s quest, such as talking to everyone in the manor and tracking down the assassination targets.

Return to the manor after each successful assassination and speak to Rya and Tanith. Following the second assassination, you can find and enter the Volcano Manor dungeon.

After that, explore the dungeon, defeat the boss, and retrieve the Serpent’s Amnion from inside the room. This is another Key Item that will lead you closer to the Tonic of Forgetfulness in Elden Ring.

With the Serpent’s Amnion in hand, return to Rya and give her the item. To continue, refresh the area so that Rya will disappear.

Finally, speak with Tanith yet again. At this point, the necessary dialogue triggers. Tanith gives you the tonic to give to Rya.

Using the Tonic of Forgetfulness in Elden Ring

Now that we have it, it’s time to use the Tonic of Forgetfulness. You have two options in how you want to use it.

First, you can give it to Rya as Tanith requested. Rya’s now found in the Temple of Eiglay, waiting by the hidden exit. If you give the tonic to her, she will forget her past.

Alternatively, you can give the Tonic of Forgetfulness to Brother Corhyn. Find him in Altus Plateau and follow his quest until he gets to Stargazers Ruins. Then, you can offer him the tonic, but he will refuse to use it. Afterward, the tonic will remain in your inventory.
