Volcano Manor is one of several enormous legacy dungeons that you can have the chance to explore during your time playing Elden Ring. While it, along with the rest of Mt. Gelmir, is completely optional when it comes to progressing the main story, the entire zone provides some great exploration, boss battles, items, and characters to interact with. Volcano Manor is a little bit out of the way and able to be completely missed, so you will want to know exactly what is needed to be done to get there. In this guide, you will learn exactly what you need to know for how to get to Volcano Manor in Elden Ring.
How To Get To Volcano Manor
Method #1 – Questline
There are, in actuality, two different methods for reaching Volcano Manor. One is tied directly to a questline for a character associated with Volcano Manor, and the other is to walk directly through the dangerous Mt. Gelmir. To get to your destination with the questline, you will first have to be in the Liurnia of the Lakes region. From there, find a stone gazebo right where the telescope icon is on the map. An NPC named Rya there will tell you that she wants a necklace back that was stolen from her and asks if you can return it to her if found. Head northwest from Rya’s location to a small house where another friendly NPC named Blackguard Big Boggart will be sitting there cooking up prawns available for purchase. He will have the necklace you seek in his inventory, so just buy it off of him and return directly to Rya. If this is done, Rya will be very pleased and present to you a personal invitation to the Volcano Manor as a gift.
After passing through Liurnia, and when you take the Grand Lift of Dectus up to the Altus Plateau for the very first time, Rya should be waiting for you at the top to teleport you straight to Volcano Manor. Had you already reached the Altus Plateau before finishing this interaction with Rya involving the necklace, she will not be at the Altus Plateau. Therefore you will have to take the much longer method to reach Volcano Manor.
Method #2 – Travel by Foot
The much longer and more complex of the two ways to reach Volcano Manor is to manually make your way up the great Mt. Gelmir. The closest starting point if you have not reached this mountainous area yet is situated in the Altus Plateau, so you will need to start from there. South of The Shaded Castle, in the very northern part of the Altus Plateau, there will be the Bridge of Iniquity that reaches across a ravine. Cross this bridge westward past a few minor enemies to reach the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace. Up ahead, you should see a few Abductor Virgins patrolling; either dispatch them or sneak by as you make your way to the ladder, you should see on the left-hand side going up the cliff and higher up the mountain. At the top of the ladder, there will be a structure that looks similar to a siege tower with what looks to be the remnants of a battle scattered around it. Continue in a west/northwest direction, running past the Frenzied Leyndell Soldiers and Pumpkin Head waiting around to beat you to a pulp. After crossing a small rock that acts as a bridge, there will be yet another ladder heading upwards that is guarded by a non-respawning Grafted Scion miniboss enemy. Whether you choose to move quickly or show him who is the stronger one is up to you, but the ladder is where you want to go.
Continue up a third and fourth ladder on your left, passing the merchant on the cliffside to a clearing up top with more Leyndell Soldiers. There will be a lower section a little northwest with several cheval-de-frise that you will want to drop down and stay tight on your left. You will come across a wooden bridge that crosses a massive drop-off; you should see the outside of the Volcano Manor to the south from here, signaling you are on track. You can rest at the Ninth Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace at the end of the bridge before you use the Spirit Spring with Torrent, as it will put you right into a boss fight. The boss fight is also optional but defeating it rewards you with an interesting weapon and other items, so run to the west side of the crater onto the jutting rock. Follow the trees down, going around the enemies, and trek down the slope towards the gigantic castle.
