The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion debuted in 2006 and helped define open-world fantasy adventures for a generation of players. Featuring a vast province of Cyrodiil and quirky but charming NPCs, the game remains a fan favorite to this day. Now, it looks like Oblivion is truly making a comeback through a remake for a new generation. However, leaked details suggest that Nintendo fans might be left out.

The long-rumored Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion remake is purpotedly real, and it just got leaked accidentally. Screenshots of the project briefly appeared on the official website of the Singapore-based remake and support developer Virtuos Studios. It’s known for assisting on many AAA titles like Hogwarts Legacy, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

The images were taken down and replaced with a 404 error page quickly. Thankfully, Reddit user masl_13 managed to save them and share the juicy details. The screenshots feature logos for Steam, Xbox and Game Pass, and PlayStation. A low-resolution picture might also indicate that the Knight of the Nine and Shivering Isles DLCs are possibly only included with the Deluxe Edition.

Noticeable absentee, though? There is no mention of the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 for the Oblivion remake.

On one hand, it’s possible the game could be announced for Nintendo’s next console at a later date. After all, both the game and console have yet to be launched to the public anyway. On the other hand, Bethesda might really be skipping Switch and focusing on beefier hardware.

This isn’t the first time that whispers of an Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion remake surfaced. In December 2024, well-known insider eXtas1stv claimed the game might be officially revealed in January 2025. Supposedly built in Unreal Engine 5, the project has reportedly been in development since 2019 under Virtuos’ direction.

Meanwhile, as fans eagerly await more Elder Scrolls, concern brews over Elder Scrolls 6. According to former Bethesda artist Dennis Mejillones, Microsoft’s influence over the studio may be growing too strong, and Todd Howard may no longer have the final say.

For now, at least fans of Oblivion can look forward to the remake that brings Cyrodiil back to life with modern visuals. Those who are eyeing Switch 2 shouldn’t get discouraged as well. Let’s wait until the official announcement to see if Bethesda and Virtuos really going to skip Nintendo’s new console.
