We never thought gift-giving could be such a bad thing, but it landed Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie Scott in X CEO Elon Musk’s line of sight. After her ex-husband founded Amazon, Scott became one of the wealthiest women in America with a 4% stake in the company. She has since dedicated her earnings to charity, earning her the title of generous philanthropist. Although Musk doesn’t seem convinced.
Business Insider has confirmed that on Tuesday, Scott announced that she would be donating $640 million to 361 organizations. The payout is more than double the $250 million she had initially pledged to give away last year. This is partly due to Musk’s criticism towards her, whereby he accused Scott of “destroying Western civilization” as we know it.
Musk Shaded MacKenzie in a Since-Deleted Post
“‘Super rich ex-wives who hate their former spouse’ should filed be listed among ‘Reasons that Western Civilization died,'” Musk said in a since-deleted X post on March 6.
Lever for Change says 279 nonprofits are receiving $2 million each of Scott’s donations, while the remaining 82 organizations are getting $1 million each.
This isn’t the first—and probably won’t be the last—time Musk has belittled Scott for donating billions to charity. Back in May 2022, Musk accused the Democratic Party of sidelining his companies because Scott had donated to “PACs posing as charities.”
“It’s safe to say that MacKenzie [ahem] Scott is not exactly a big fan of her ex-husband. Unfortunately, a lot of others are getting caught in the crossfire,” Musk said in an X post from May 2022.

Scott has yet to respond to Musk’s slandering.
