Due to the recent events, especially in the USA, many users have their sights set on the popular social network X. For some time now, many users have been debating whether to continue with an X account, first because of all the changes brought about by its rebranding. In more recent cases, it’s due to the way its current owner, Elon Musk, conducts himself publicly, with whom not many sympathize. Initially, there were more users and some influencers, but this issue went so far that the Hinterland Studio team announced they would leave Twitter.

Hinterland is an independent game development studio based in Canada. This studio is well-known thanks to their 2014 game The Long Dark, and they are working on the sequel BLACKFROST: The Long Dark 2. Besides its homepage, this studio also uses social media to announce any issues or support to players. However, the Hinterland team has just announced they will leave Twitter. Although more than quitting, they also announced that they will no longer share information about their projects on the platform. The announcement appeared on the studio’s profile as The Long Dark profile.

Besides the cessation of publishing and sharing information, the Hinterland team also wrote a harsh message against the owner of X. They also shared other profiles to maintain communication with their community, such as Bluesky and other social networks they already had. To this, the playerbase of The Long Dark reacted in a mixed way, some praising Hinterland for following their values and others disappointed that the studio chose a political side. It remains to be seen how this situation develops in the future. Still, for now, the users are beyond divided by political ideologies, spilling over into many other areas and industries. Who knows if more users or game studios will follow in the Hinterland team’s footsteps.
