Enshrouded already gives players full autonomy over how they build, what they build, and where they build it, alongside a ridiculous combat and survival system created by the gods themselves. As part of its Gamescom appearance, Update 7 was announced, adding the beauty of flowing water in Wake of the Water. The community was so eager to have water added to the game that it quickly became the top-requested feature in the Feature Upvote. Introducing a whole new biome and enemy faction, don’t be surprised if I send you an in-game invite so we can play mermaids together.
This is a major win for longtime Enshrouded players, especially those looking to create builds of other fictional worlds. Longtime player DJHracer7 showed his insane build of the first Legend of Zelda game map, really cementing the sort of creativity that exists within the community. I always get jealous when people are more creative than I am, though, judging by how insane the build looks, I’m not sure if I would have achieved even half of that greatness. With water terraforming being added, even more insanity will be possible.
Of course, I don’t expect anything less from diehard Enshrouded players. One team of 15 people took 61 days out of their lives to recreate the entirety of Isengard in Enshrouded, having used 22 million voxels and 54,000 decorations. Now that water is being added, I would love to see Isengard again, but this time flowing with waterfalls teeming with life. Speaking of water-based terraforming, even though it’s voxel-based, don’t expect there to be a weird, cube-like tinge to everything. Developer Keen Games also significantly enhanced gameplay related to water, focusing more on swimming, fishing, and aqueducting.
Considering that the whole trailer has a disclaimer saying the footage is from an early development build of the update, it looks wildly impressive and a step up from our first impressions. We first previewed Enshrouded when it initially launched in early access, and back then, it was still very much a fantasy building sim with various survival elements thrown in. There were objectives to complete and places to go, but the world wasn’t nearly as developed as it currently is, and the focus of gameplay was really to just survive as long as you possibly could with what you’ve got. Now, it very much looks like it’s on its way to having a massive 1.0 launch on PC in 2026. For now, we just need to get to October to play mermaids when Wake of the Water launches.
