It was Ernest Hemingway who first said, “Write drunk, edit sober.” In today’s world, this quote still rings true. The funny thing about inebriation is that even when you’re not writing, the truth still manages to come out. During a random interview, two Minneapolis teens proved this. Not only did they say exactly what was on their minds when asked about ICE, but they now have loyal fans because of it. Here’s what they had to say.
“Do you support ICE?” The interviewer asks the teens on a chilly Minnesota night. “No, not really,” one replies. The other, more forcefully, replies, “Hell bleeping nah.” The interviewer asks why, prompting more elaborate and brutally honest answers. “Because it’s not good,” one of them replies. “Because it’s splitting up families,” the other teen says. “It’s not right. These people are not illegal. It’s bleeping Holocaust bleep.”
The same teen is then asked to address people in the comments, saying that ICE is just following the law. “In Germany, they were ‘following the law,'” he says. “Following the law does not mean it’s legal. That does not mean it’s right. That does not mean it’s moral.” As his friend adds, “That’s what I’m sayin’,” the first teen continues. “These people voted for this!” He yells into the mic. “They voted for this, and that’s wrong.” The video wraps up with one more question from the interviewer, asking what the te last illegal thing they did was.
“Oh, underage drinking,” they reply.
While the video has an edge of humor, many viewers are applauding the teens for still speaking the truth, despite their drunken answers. “Typically, a drunken video of you would hurt when applying for jobs, etc. I’d put a link to this on my cover letter,” one Reddit user says. “These kids are wasted and still managed to get the right answer. Well done, boys,” another replies.
They may not remember this come morning, but if nothing else, this video makes one thing clear. Even ten shots into the night, someone who’s wasted can still tell the difference between moral and unethical.
