Today has to be one of the most exciting for any Guardian in Sol. We all know the reveal for Destiny 2: Edge of Fate was coming. However, we had no idea about how big it would be, and boy, it was huge. We got a glimpse at the Year of Prophecy, its roadmap, revamps of some of the game’s core systems, not only one but two expansions, and much, much more. And the great thing about it is that you can start some of the content today, so let’s go over everything that Bungie announced for Destiny 2.
Destiny 2: Edge of Fate Launches on July 15, 2025
First things first, the release date of Destiny 2: Edge of Fate. It will be a paid expansion that launches on July 15, 2025. If you missed the whole reveal, we’ve attached the cinematic trailer above. In Edge of Fate, Guardians will explore Kepler while wielding new powers and meeting new allies. Plus, it will set the stage for the Fate Saga, which is exciting since it means we’ll have Destiny 2 content for a long, long time. Speaking of content, Bungie also unveiled its roadmap for the Year of Prophecy, which you can find below.

As you can see, Destiny 2 will pump out content yearly, with each year including two paid expansions plus two major updates, and other content in between.
For the upcoming year, we’ll kick things off with The Edge of Fate, then get Ash & Iron as a major free update, then move on to Renegades, which is a fully Star Wars-themed expansion, and then Shadow & Order will be free for everyone.
Streamlining A Guardian’s Experience

Content aside, Destiny 2: Edge of Fate will also streamline most of the game’s concepts and systems. For starters, we’ll have a new thing called Portal, which will show all of the available activities for players. This is extremely useful as many get lost or overwhelmed by the game’s menu. Here, it is much easier to grasp, and it will be a great way for new Guardians to get their feet wet.
Also, Solo Ops are coming, for well, lone wolves out there. This is huge as these activities offer 10-minute adventures that you can play without stressing over not having a team or not knowing the game’s mechanics yet. But for veteran players, you can still find the usual Ops to tackle with other Guardians.
Last but certainly not least, the Armor 3.0 & Tiering system is coming, which makes huge changes to how armor works. For starters, we’ll get armor sets. You can match pieces to get powerful passive bonuses. There will also be five tiers for armor and weapons, making the build-crafting process for players much easier to grasp without taking away the depth of it all.
A Brand-New Star Wars-Themed Expansion Is Coming
To wrap things up, we already have the teaser for the second expansion, Renegades, which focuses on Star Wars. There aren’t a lot of details yet, other than the outlaw theme of it and some armor for the three Guardian classes, like Darth Vader for Titan, Kylo Ren for Warlock, and Grevious for Hunter. It’s also part of the Year of Prophecy, so if you want to wield the Dark Side earlier, consider getting the bundle ahead of its release.
Last but certainly not least, the Rite of the Nine event is here, and it is the perfect way for new players to jump into dungeons while also bringing old Guardians back into the fight. It will certainly give us a lot to do while we wait for the next big expansion, so grab your Exotics and start blasting your way through the Year of Prophecy.
