This past weekend, fans of Rooster Teeth flocked to Austin, Texas for RTX 2017, their annual convention “where gaming meets the internet”. The Rooster Teeth Expo is not only home to all things Rooster Teeth, but gaming, cosplay, and all things even remotely nerdy. The internet giant’s animation team had some exciting news to share about RWBY, Red vs. Blue, and even a new anime to premiere this year!
The fifth volume of RWBY, the first American-produced anime to be distributed in Japan, is set to release on October 14th, 2017. The newest season will appear on First, Rooster Teeth’s paid subscription service, before appearing on Youtube and Rooster Teeth’s website for the general public. RWBY follows four friends- Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang- as they travel across Remnant fighting the Grimm. While no details have been released about the plotline yet, there will be character shorts released up until the release date. If you haven’t had the pleasure of checking out Rooster Teeth’s first anime, check out the first episode below.
As if a release date for the newest season of RWBY wasn’t exciting enough, the animation team behind RWBY also announced a new anime that they have been working on: gen:LOCK. gen:LOCK is a mecha-themed anime that will take place in the not so distant future. While the animation team did not give a release date, fans attending the panel did get the chance to see some concept art focused on certain characters and mecha-designs that will be featured in the anime.
As always, Rooster Teeth has left us thirsty for more, and I for one, can’t wait to see what they come up with over the next year. Looking forward to gen:LOCK and the newest season of RWBY?
