It’s a case with good and bad news with Fall Guys on Xbox platforms and Nintendo Switch. On the bad side, they’ve been delayed. Originally slated for a Summer 2021 release, the team at Mediatonic (who recently got snapped up by Epic – one of many expenses they’ve been paying recently) have decided in a blog post that that date has come “unfortunately just too soon” for those platforms, and as a result, the release date has been pushed back to an unannounced date. On the other hand (and this arguably makes the delay worth it), cross-play will be a feature coming to Fall Guys, so bean-men of all platforms can play together.
Now, it doesn’t expressly say that cross-play will bridge the gap between Xbox, Switch, and the already-released PS4 and PC versions, but we’ll treat that as the default unless Mediatonic later clarifies. But still, it’s a great sign. Multiplayer games thrive on player bases and the more divided they are, the worse the experience and the faster the game fades into obscurity. Cross-play has become an unspoken expectation in recent years (does anyone remember Sony dragging its heels until games like Fortnite and Rocket League became too popular to defy?) so seeing a game like Fall Guys (which deserves all the success it earned since it released as a PS Plus free game last year) get something like cross-play is good to see.
There will be plenty more updates to come that we absolutely cannot wait to share with you soon. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience and hope you join us in looking forward to our ambitious new plans for those mighty, mighty beans.”
