By now, we all know Vault-Tec isn’t the best company in Fallout‘s universe. While it offered a way for people to survive The Great War, time inside certain Vaults wasn’t as ideal as one would’ve thought. A few of them were lucky enough to be called ‘control’ Vaults and time inside them was all fine and dandy. However, other shelters, such as Vault 111 in Fallout 4, were submitted to certain experiments that the residents didn’t know about.
What Was The Experiment of Vault 111 in Fallout 4? Answered
Before we delve (pun intended) into the experiment of Vault 111 of Fallout 4, let me explain a bit of how Vault works. Essentially, you have two types: Control and, let’s call the second one, Experimental. Vault 111 falls into the latter. It was a shelter with one single purpose: to see the effects of long-term suspended animation. This was, of course, done without the subjects knowing about it, which means your character was oblivious to this experiment.
Furthermore, Vault 111 would open 180 days after the bombs dropped, but that didn’t happen. This led to many believing there was another experiment inside this shelter. With a stock of supplies that would last 180 days, many assumed the next experiment was of a social nature: to see how the staff of this place would react when the supplies ran out. If you already played the game, you know it ended badly. The ‘All-Clear’ sign never arrived, and the staff committed mutiny against the people in charge.
Did Vault-Tec Cause the Pod Failures?
It is hard to tell, but according to many holo-tapes, that wasn’t the case. As mentioned, the staff would open the Vault after 180 days. However, this didn’t occur, and everyone died inside the shelter. This led to all cryogenic pods failing, thus ending the experiment of Vault 111 in Fallout 4. However, since the protagonist has plot protection, they lived, became Vault Dwellers, and brought peace or chaos to the Commonwealth.
I believe this is one of the most peaceful shelters in the series. If you take a look at others, you can see some had quite creepy experiments for the poor survivors, and that’s just talking about Fallout 4. Other mainline games have scary Vaults for players to explore, so if you’re a lore fanatic, don’t be afraid to delve into them.
