If you have a constant surplus of ammunition in Fallout 76, consider setting up an Ammo Converter in your camp. As its name implies, this device is capable of converting one type of ammunition into another. The Ammo Converter achieves this conversion process through a currency resource called AmmoPoints. Whenever you “sell” a specific type of ammo to the machine, it does not perform a direct exchange. Instead, it will consume or grant a certain number of AmmoPoints using the ammunition you provide.
Using AmmoPoints with an Ammo Converter in Fallout 76
Simply put, an Ammo Converter is a machine in Fallout 76 that spends or produces AmmoPoints, depending on the ammunition type exchanged. These AmmoPoints can then be used to buy a variety of ammo for your weapons without the need to craft them on your own. As a result, you’ll be able to procure an ample supply of ammunition in demand instantly.

For instance, let’s say you had an excessive stockpile of .45 Rounds you found or crafted during your ventures across Appalachia. According to Fallout 76 content creator JiMacSteelGaming, you can use the Ammo Converter to sell this ammo type for AmmoPoints in stacks of ones, tens, or hundreds. Since .45 Rounds are in the “Ballistic Ammo – Lower Power” category, they will sell for less than the selection in “Higher Power.” Therefore, you cannot expect to acquire the same number of rounds of 5.56 Rounds if you are converting from .45 Rounds and vice versa.
If you are newer to the wastelands of Fallout 76 and have yet to acquire an Ammo Converter for your base, you have two procurement options. First, you can exchange gold bullion with Mortimer or Minerva for the machine’s crafting plan. Mortimer is the Crater Raider faction’s Mister Handy and will offer its shop services once you reach a reputation of Friendly with the Raiders. Minerva is a vendor with the Blue Ridge Caravan Company who only sells the Ammo Converter’s plans on certain days of her shop rotation schedule.
The second way to acquire the Ammo Converter is directly from Atomic Shop for Atoms, the premium currency of Fallout 76. If you don’t wish to wait for Minerva or grind for Mortimer, the Atomic Shop’s offering will likely be the best option for you.
Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
