A fan shared a heartfelt moment between Billie Eilish and her fans at a concert. Well, what was probably meant to be a little more heartfelt than it was. I knew What Was I Made For had turned into a meme. However, I didn’t think everyone would pull that meme out while she was trying to perform.
During a Billie Eilish concert, the musician began singing “What Was I Made For,” originally recorded as part of the Barbie movie soundtrack in 2023. Since then, it has become something of an internet meme in a rather niche corner of TikTok: instead of singing the lyrics, you meow them—yes, like a cat.
Just as she begins singing, the arena erupts with other people singing and meowing. Before long, everyone starts meowing. At one point, it becomes so loud that it drowns her out.
You can see Billie smile just as the meowing gets louder. In fact, Billie Eilish herself reposted the video to her TikTok account. So, I imagine she finds it to be hilarious. The repost gave the video even more views, with Jenna Ortega sliding into the comments, saying,
For context, the meme began because of a series of AI images of upset cats on an account called MPMinds. The images are placed in a reel and typically tell a comical story in which the cat must overcome a difficult obstacle, with the meowing version of What Was I Made For playing in the background. The meme made its way to other parts of the internet until finally, an entire arena decided to sing it alongside her. The only thing that would have made it better is if Billie stopped singing the original version and meowed with everyone else.
