Ubisoft is going all in on Far Cry 5, continuing to expand their marketing beyond simple trailers and press releases. An announcement trailer was posted to their official Youtube page on Thursday, revealing a live-action short film set before the upcoming game titled “Inside Eden’s Gate.”
The trailer shows a group of vloggers setting off to investigate the doomsday cult in Montana, The Project at Eden’s Gate. Things soon go awry, as they realize that people truly are being held against their will, finding themselves trapped.
The short will star Kyle Gallner (American Sniper) and Greg Bryk (A History of Violence). If Bryk looks or sounds familiar, it is because he is also the main antagonist of Far Cry 5, the leader of the Eden’s Gate cult, Joseph Seed.
If that isn’t enough to get you excited for Far Cry 5, don’t fret, as there is even more media to consume before it releases. In Far Cry Absolution, you’ll follow Mary May Fairgrave – a local barkeep who has lost almost everything to the Church – in her quest for revenge against the cult that took over her town. Written by Urban Waite, the standalone novel is an official prequel, and is now available for purchase.
The Far Cry series has certainly come a long way since the days of Jack Carver, traveling to unique (fictional) landscapes filled with exotic inhabitance. Hell, it even had a dystopian spinoff, filled with cybernetics and even a robotic dinosaur. Despite all of that, Far Cry 5 is still shaping up to be the most interesting installment in the franchise yet.
Far Cry 5: Inside Eden’s Gate will be available on Amazon Prime video starting March 5, 2018. The video game won’t be too far behind it, releasing later this month, March 27, 2018.
