Last year the mainline series, and now the spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, is now following in those footsteps as season 8 will be the final outing for the AMC zombie series. The company announced the news during its presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
The final season of Fear the Walking Dead will be 12 episodes with two halves of the season. The first six episodes will premiere on May 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC and AMC+. The second half will premiere later in the year, with no date announced for now. The finale will close out the second main series of the franchise, opening it up for more spinoffs that have also received updates as a part of the announcement.
You can get a glimpse at what you can expect from the end of Fear the Walking Dead with the latest trailer below:
Fear the Walking Dead season 8 to be the final season of the spinoff series
We have dates for the two other companion series. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will get their own show, which we have known about for quite some time. Dead City will arrive in June as the two unlikely duo try to survive in a zombie-infested Manhattan two years after the ending of the original series. The other will be Norman Reedus’ series, simply subtitled Daryl Dixon, which will release later in the year. As AMC focuses more on the franchise, the years are going to be piling up with more of The Walking Dead.
As part of the announcement about Fear the Walking Dead gearing up for its final season, we have a small update on the other spinoff, with Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprising their respective roles. The limited series has begun production, but no window has been set for when we will see it.
