Michael Mann’s racing film ‘Ferrari’ just had three major stars board the project. Based on Brock Yates’ book “Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine, the biopic will star actors Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz, and Shailene Woodley. Adam Driver, most known for playing Kylo Ren in Star Wars and most recently as Maurizio Gucci in House of Gucci, will play the title character of Enzo Ferrari. Driver replaces X Men’s Hugh Jackman, who was originally signed on for the lead role.
Penélope Cruz will be starring in the ‘Ferrari’ film as Enzo’s wife, Laura Ferrari. The Academy Awards just announced yesterday that Cruz is nominated for ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in Parallel Mothers. Shailene Woodley of Big Little Lies has joined the cast as Enzo Ferrari’s mistress Lina Lardi.
In a statement about the upcoming ‘Ferrari’ film, Michael Mann said,
“Being able to have these wonderfully talented artists, actors Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley, bring to life these unique characters on location in Modena and the Emilia-Romagna is a vision fulfilled.”
For two decades, this film has been Michael Mann’s passion project. The ‘Ferrari’ film large-budget racing biopic is set in the summer of 1957 and follows the life of Italian ex-racecar driver, giant auto manufacturer, and sports car entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari. Ferrari is in crisis as his marriage and business are on the line. Enzo and Laura’s marriage struggles as they’re both mourning their son, and their business is stalked by bankruptcy as the two built it up from nothing ten years prior. As Ferrari struggles, he decides to go against everything pulling him down and venture out on one colossal race 1,000 miles across Italy – the Mille Miglia.
