After years of waiting, the Yo-Kai event of FFXIV made its way back to the MMO in 2024. While many wait for Dawntrail‘s imminent release, capturing Yo-kai is a fantastic way to pass the time. Contrary to other events, this has a hands-on approach, tasking players to complete as many FATEs as possible in certain areas of Eorzea. So, grab your watch, your friends, and your loyal Yo-kai because you’re in for one of the best crossover events of this game.
How To Start the Yo-kai Watch Event of 2024 in FFXIV
To start this event, players must reach level 15 and reach the part of the MSQ where they are allowed to travel to other cities. More specifically, they need to finish the Gridanian, Lominsan, or Ul’dahn Envoy quests. Once that’s done, head to Ul’dah and speak with the Poor-heeled Youth NPC. You can use the image below for reference.
Once you start the quest, you must do the following before getting any Yo-kai:
- Head to the Gold Saucer.
- Speak with the Wandering Execute, who’ll send you to Bentbranch Meadows.
- Gather information by speaking to three NPCs in the area.
- Head to the tree where the White Mage quest takes place.
- Watch the cutscene to meet Whisper and return to the Gold Saucer.
- Obtain the Yo-kai compendium and watch, and you can start farming Yo-kai medals in FFXIV.
How To Obtain Yo-kai Medals in FFXIV
If this is your first time playing the Yo-kai Watch event in FFXIV, the 2024 version doesn’t change much, as you can still get many old rewards by exchanging medals. To obtain this currency, you must participate in FATEs in certain areas while equipping your Yo-kai Watch. While you can get Yo-kai minions with normal medals, the best rewards from this event are the Yo-kai weapons, which you can only obtain by doing FATEs while having a certain Yo-kai summoned as a minion.
To make your FATE-hunting easier, we’ve made a table listing the following things: The Yo-kai you need to summon as a companion, the location of the FATE you must take them to, and the weapon you can obtain by exchanging Legendary Yo-kai Medals.
Note: While you can get normal medals to unlock minions by doing FATEs alone, Legendary Medals only appear if you have a specific Yo-kai with you, which is what we’ll show on this table.

Remember, if you want to start farming normal and legendary Yo-kai medals in FFXIV for the 2024 event, here is a summary of the steps:
- Unlock the Yo-kai watch by finishing the introductory quest.
- Use the medal you get from the quest to unlock your first minion. I recommend unlocking the one that is tied to your job’s weapon. For example, I unlocked Kyubi because I wanted my Ninja daggers.
- Head to any of the locations we listed above.
- Summon your Yo-kai minion and participate in the FATE.
- Finishing a FATE with a silver or gold ranking can give you a normal or legendary medal.
All FFXIV Yo-kai Watch 2024 Event Rewards
While the weapons aren’t something new, there are other things you can get with medals or by unlocking a specific number of Yo-kai. Here are all the rewards for the event:
Reward | Unlock Requirements |
---|---|
Whisper-go Mount | Gather 13 Yo-kai minions. |
Whisper A-go-go Mount. | Collect 13 Yo-kai weapons. |
Jibanyan couch (furniture). | Collect all 17 Yo-kai weapons. |
Yo-kai Framer’s Kit (New for the 2024 event) | Collect all 17 Yo-kai weapons and purchase the kit by spending 20,000 MGP at the Gold Saucer. |
The Yo-kai Watch event of 2024 in FFXIV will last until Dawntrail‘s launch, meaning you have a lot of time to gather medals. While it is sad Reaper and Sage didn’t get any Yo-kai weapons, you can still work all the other 17 jobs. Furthermore, you can get two new mounts just by grinding a bit while we wait for the new expansion’s arrival.
