All The Basics You Should Know About Matt Reeves’ The Batman
Back in May, it was said that Warner Bros. was thoroughly searching for their next Dark Knight. However, Robert Pattinson wasn’t the only actor in the running. X-Men: First Class actor Nicholas Hoult was also up for the role. Ultimately, WB went with the Twilight star. Over the next few months, the cast of The Batman continued to grow. The cast now includes Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Colin Farrell as The Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot, Paul Dano as The Riddler/Edward Nashton, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone.
If that seems like a large roster, there may be a good reason behind it. The film is rumored to feature six antagonists, including some of the characters listed above. Furthermore, we can expect The Batman to be more of a noir story that focuses on the World’s Greatest Detective aspect of the character. Here’s what Director Matt Reeves told THR in early 2019 about the project:
“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
The Batman is set to hit theaters on June 25th, 2021.
