The first reactions to Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are here! Disney’s latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe debuted last night at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater. The event was attended by the usual big wigs, the stars of the film, and the original “Mandarin” actor from Iron Man 3, Ben Kingsley.

Official reviews of Shang-Chi will not be out until next week. However, many in attendance took to Twitter to share their initial reactions.

Certified Nerd and Marvel lover Brandon Davis from Comicbook.com stated, “#Shang-Chi is awesome. This movie hits all that Marvel does well (pacing, humor, character) and adds action like we’ve never seen from the MCU before!”

Davis also noted that Shang-Chi is “Darker than expected. Loads of fun. Integral to MCU Phase 4!”

Simu Liu Premiere

Josephine L. from Geeks of Color also tweeted her love for Shang-Chi, saying, “I’m emotional and absolutely in LOVE with this movie. I’m ready to watch this again and again! Also hot damn Tony Leung and Simu Liu.”

Wendy Lee Szany, a self-proclaimed nerd and member of the Hollywood Critics Association, tweeted, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is PHENOMENAL. Get hyped. Even fight scene/action sequence is better than the last. @SimuLiu fully embraces the marvel superhero role. Amazing imagery. Killer soundtrack. You’ll want to see this on the big screen.”

Drew Taylor from Collider, SYFYWire, and more also shared his praises for the movie, tweeting, “#ShangChi is an absolute triumph, unexpectedly spiritual and emotionally complex, with some of the very best action in the MCU. @SimuLiu is your new favorite Avenger and the movie’s myriad influences (everything from Jackie Chan to Hayao Miyazaki) pay off big time). Astounding.”

Overall, the initial reactions to Shang-Chi appear positive. Does Marvel Studios have yet another hit on their hands?

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrives exclusively in theaters on September 3, 2021!
