Set in the same world as The Witcher approximately 1,200 years before the beginning of the series, the official synopsis for the six-part limited series reads:

“It tells the story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher. And the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

The Witcher: Blood Origin will be led by three different main elven characters, who were all showcased in the trailer. Vikings star Laurence O’Fuarain is set to portray Fjall, who comes from a clan of warriors sworn to protect a mighty King and seeks vengeance; Michelle Yeoh (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as Scían, the last member of the nomadic tribe of sword-elves out to find a legendary, sacred blade; and Sophia Brown (Giri/Haji, Marcella), who replaces Jodie Turner-Smith as Éile, an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess who is forced to the return to the blade.

Additionally, joining the lead stars will be a plentiful cast from many different works in both fantasy and other genres, including Lenny Henry (Lord Of the Rings series), Mirren Mack (The Nest), Nathaniel Curtis (It’s A Sin), Dylan Moran (Black Books), Jacob Collins-Levy (Young Wallander), Huw Novelli (The Capture), Francesca Mills (Harlots), Zach Wyatt (Karen Pirie), Lizzie Annis, and Amy Murray.

Although the teaser trailer did not provide an exact release date for the series, Netflix has assured that fans can expect to see The Witcher prequel series at some point in 2022.
