First there was Jobs, and now there’s Steve Jobs. The first trailer has been released for the upcoming biopic of Apple founder Steve Jobs. The largely forgettable Jobs was mostly a critical failure and everybody was waiting on Aaron Sorkin’s version anyway. Sorkin, for those who aren’t familiar wrote The West Wing, A Few Good Men, and managed to make nerds exciting in The Social Network. Directorial duties will be handled by Danny Boyle, known for 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, and 127 Hours.
But who will be portraying the turtlenecked god of millennials? No, not Ashton Kutcher, but the ever talented Michael “Magneto” Fassbender. The supporting cast includes Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels, and Seth Rogen, who is apparently trying to Jonah Hill his way to an Oscar. Good luck.
The trailer itself shows little in terms of footage. It’s mostly one shot of Fassbender’s Jobs at a keynote from behind. Voice over plays in the background, presumably taken from other scenes in the film. The camera swivels around to reveal Fassbender in full makeup as Steve Jobs. It’s a good makeup job and Fassbender seems able to pull the character off. There’s a quick succession of actor introductions and that’s it. That’s our taste.
The film is due out October 9th, 2015, right in time for awards season. Will Sorkin’s script live up to the hype? Will the film be at least a little bit better than Jobs? Let us know in the comment below.
