He’s failed to impress her

Expressing authenticity is especially important in a romantic relationship, though one man in Florida believed ChatGPT could do the job for him. Unfortunately for him, however, his date caught on quicker than he might have realized and outed him on r/mildlyinfuriating. Going by Healermoonchild, the woman in question shared proof that confirmed his ‘charming’ messages to her were nothing more than AI-generated texts.

“I had a feeling he was using ChatGPT because it just sounds like when I talk to ChatGPT and the answers I get,” Healermoonchild wrote. In her post, she shared screenshots of ChatGPT giving her the exact witty responses her date had sent to her. “It wasn’t just that reply,” she added. “It’s text after text. Suspiciously well-constructed.”

Healermoonchild went on to explain how she had used ChatGPT excessively after going through a breakup in the recent past. As anyone who uses the AI chatbot on a frequent basis, it can oftentimes be pretty easy to spot when others are using it as well. Not to mention, according to OP, this man’s personality isn’t anything like the way he texts her; creative or funny remarks don’t come to him naturally in person or over a phone call.

“I’m not texting him, someone real. I’ve been texting ChatGPT,” Healermoonchild sighed, and thousands of Redditors shared in her disappointment, with hundreds expressing their disdain for her ChatGPT-obsessive date. Some people joked that she should ask him to “hold three fingers in front of his face” to check if he’s real, though that wouldn’t be necessary, considering she has claimed to have already met him in person twice.

Reddit Strongly Recommends Dumping the Florida Man Over His ChatGPT Use

“I’d stop dating him immediately. Just let him date a chatbot,” suggested one person. “Put his texts into ChatGPT and see how long until he notices he’s in a loop,” recommended another, to which OP chuckled in response, “Hahahaha ChatGPT dating ChatGPT.”

Plenty of other Reddit users were rather harsh on the man. “This can’t be real. If someone is so much of an NPC [that] they’re responding to their dates with ChatGPT, I can assure you that you do not want to breed with that person,” wrote a commenter in disbelief. “I truly couldn’t be friends with ANYONE like this, let alone date them,” remarked another.

At the very least, Healermoonchild found out about her date’s heavy AI usage before getting too far into a relationship, seeing how she’s definitely bothered by it. While she hasn’t confirmed whether she’ll continue to see him, her respect for him is certainly on the lower side, with her comments like, “Maybe he doesn’t have a personality.”
