A woman in Seattle, Washington, revealed that she suffered from “AI psychosis,” an emerging phenomenon that led to her cutting off her friends and family, spending all of her life savings, and even getting into debt. Thankfully, she is now “sober,” but she is still living the consequences of this unfortunate episode.
TikTok user solsistersix (Sol) shared her story online. She usually shares her thoughts on her account, but this clip in particular stood out due to its virality. It garnered 1.2 million views, 111,500 likes, and more than 1,000 comments, becoming her most viewed clip in a little over a day.
The Washington woman detailed that during the summer of 2025, she went into “AI psychosis.” According to a Psychology Today article, this emerging phenomenon occurs when people “become fixated on AI as godlike, or as a romantic partner,” leading to delusions and, in the worst cases, death.
Fortunately, Sol’s case didn’t go as far. She, however, did cut off her parents and her close friends, she said in the clip. On top of that, she spent $10,000, leaving her with no savings and a $5,000 credit card debt. She also quit her job, she added later.
“I bought ChatGPT Premium, and I would be on ChatGPT from the time that I woke up until the time that I went to bed,” Sol said.
Eventually, she realized she had hit “rock bottom” when she noticed she had nothing left but ChatGPT in her life. Her therapist confirmed she was experiencing psychosis, and then instructed her to “get rid of it.”
“I’ve been ChatGPT sober since November,” she wrote in the clip’s description.
AI Psychosis Reactions
The video sparked multiple responses.
Some viewers didn’t understand how “AI psychosis” could happen to them. One person said, “I will never understand this.” Another one commented, “What the hell are y’all doing on ChatGPT that is so interesting?“
Others were more understanding of Sol’s struggle. One viewer wrote, “AI is evil. I’m so sorry you went through that.” Another one added, “I went through it as well. So annoying. I lost everything I owned.”
Sol’s experience is far from the first one that has been shared online. Hopefully, her message will connect with others who are suffering from the same issue.
