A Florida couple gave their youngest son a budget so he could pick his first car ever. Instead of asking him to pick something reliable, the young man insisted on choosing decades-old cars and even a 27-year-old Japanese truck with a flatbed. Of course, the parents aren’t having any of it, and the internet has something to say about it.
Cameron Luke, also known as Lakeview Living, shared the story on TikTok. She usually posts her thoughts to her 350,000 followers on a variety of topics, but the clip in question quickly became one of her biggest. It garnered 4.3 million views, 539,400 likes, and more than 7,000 comments.
The Florida mother detailed that she provided her son with a budget that she and her husband were willing to spend on his first car. The young man’s first choice was a 1987 Yugo, which the owner was not, in good conscience, willing to sell to a teenager, as it was “not reliable.”
“That’s fair,” the woman told the seller. “I don’t even know what I was thinking.”
Cameron told her son to find something like a Honda CRV. He came back with another older model: a 1988 Celica. She declined that option as well. Then he picked a Saturn, and he was immediately shut down.
A Two-Seater Flatbed Truck
Finally, the young Florida man decided he wanted a two-seater Mitsubishi Minicab, which comes equipped with a flatbed.
The woman was flabbergasted, although her husband found his son’s pick “kinda cool.” Instead, Cameron suggested they buy a Honda Civic, which wasn’t to her son’s liking but was at least a safe pick.
In a follow-up, Cameron revealed she ended up purchasing the Honda Civic. However, she finally decided to give it to her eldest son, sell his current car, and use the money to purchase the Mitsubishi for her youngest.
“If he has this for a couple of months and he hates it, too bad. So sad,” the woman said.
An Assortment Of Opinions
The whole car-picking series sparked multiple responses.
Some viewers believed the Florida son wasn’t being serious with his picks. One said, “Is he trolling y’all?” Another one commented, “Girl, tell him to pick a car from this century.”
Others, however, were critical of Cameron’s unwillingness to let her son pick what he wanted. One viewer wrote, “It’s his first car…. It’s supposed to be fun…” Finally, some were even enthusiastic about the Mitsubishi, with one viewer sharing a photo of his truck, saying, “Highly recommend.”
For now, the debate isn’t about the car anymore. It’s about who should get the final say. It makes you wonder whether, whenever the Mitsubishi Minicab arrives, Cameron will go viral once again.
