With the new NPC known as Dire arriving on the Island this week in Season 8 in Fortnite Chapter 2, a whole new set of Punchcard challenges have also arrived. Dire’s second challenge tasks players with doing melee damage to wildlife found on the Battle Royale Island. This guide will show you how to damage wildlife with a melee weapon in Fortnite.
How to Damage Wildlife With a Melee Weapon in Fortnite
The first thing you need to do to start the Punchcard Quest for Dire is talk to him. He can be found at Camp Cod, which is on an island south of Catty Corner. Dire can be found in front of the house on the hill in the southwest part of the island. His location will be signified by a white Speech Bubble when you get close to him. Once you talk to him, you will have to complete one challenge before you can complete the melee damage quest. The first challenge in his questline is to emote at the Weather Station, Fort Crumpet, or Lockie’s Lighthouse.
Once you’ve done this, you can start your hunt. This challenge requires you to use your harvesting tool to do damage to an animal you find in the wild. This can be birds, chickens, boars, or even raptors or wolves. The first two on the list are probably the easiest to do, but you can hunt any of the animals that live on the island. Raptors can be found in Weeping Woods and boars can be found to the west of Lazy Lake. To find wolves, click the link on the word wolves above. Once you track them down, you will need to hit one of the animals with your pickaxe or whatever you use as your melee weapon to deal 40 damage to it. This should take 2-3 hits. Doing this will complete the challenge.

Once you find and deal damage to some wildlife with your melee weapon, the challenge will be completed and you will be rewarded 30,000 XP for leveling up your Fortnite Season 8 Battle Pass. Dealing melee damage means you can move on to Dire’s next challenge: Destroy a dumpster at Lazy Lake or Pleasant Park.
